Fight Like A Brave...

I had an exciting delivery last Thursday and have been engrossed by the contents ever since... (to the detriment of this blog!)

The first book out of my
Amazon Japan box was Scar Tissue:

And what a page-turner it was...how is this man still alive and kicking holes in the sky?! I had my fave RHCP CDs on high rotation while reading this especially "What Hits!?" and "Blood Sugar Sex Magik".

After the gritty realism of modern day urban life I switched to the gritty realism of the Crusades!

This was an escapist page-turner with the added attraction of having female characters as the protagonists. I always enjoy a good feminist historical retelling!

hehe...blood sugar sex magik was on heavy replay in college ;) and i'm glad to see the book was written by kate mosse, not moss ;) too much coke probably interferes with writing.

Bearette, you made me smile! BSSM has long been one of my fave albums esp "Suck My Kiss" :D

Helen, I'd been wanting to read Scar Tissue for ages...just never got around to ordering it. Definitely worth the cash, eyebrow raising and well written!

Liz, I haven't seen the video but I've heard it a few times on the radio. You'll love Australia and New Zealand...they are both beautiful countries. That's an exciting trip!

My Float, How long have you been psychic? Because the 3rd book out of my package was none other than...drum roll..."Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon! Too freaky :D Have you ever read "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley? This is one of my faves as it's a feminist retelling of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

BTW I enjoyed "Labyrinth" despite some of the bad reviews you'll read about it on Amazon...mainly that it's too slow and long! I didn't find it slow at all and being a history buff, really enjoyed all of the historical information peppered throughout!

I didn't know there was a book out on the RHCP lead singer. Glad you enjoyed.

I had seen the book Labyrinth and put it on my Amazon Wishlist (which I use to remember books that I read a review on or a book that looks interesting for possible future reading), but I had read some of the reviews on Amazon and then wasn't sure about it. Based on your review, I'll put it on the top of my list. I also enjoy history.

Have you ever read The Eight by Katherine Neville. It also has a female protagonist and lots of history relating to the French Revolution. Also a page-turner/mystery.

I didn't know there was a book on him either. Is is mainly about him or the whole band? They have been through a lot as a band. I can only imagine what he has been through alone. I have been a huge fan of RHCP since the Catholic School Girls Rule days. Maybe because I'm a Catholic School brat. Anyway, I'll have Cathie look that book up when she goes to the library today.

What is Outlander? Why have I never heard of this DG book? Must rush out and find it *today*! Am currently slogging my way through Breath of snow and ashes. I haven't read Mists of Avalon, have always wanted to but for some reason, never got around to it. So it's next on my must read list! thanks for the recommendation

Just found out that Outlander has been published in Australia as Cross Stitch. Interesting! Enjoy the series.

LOL Elsa, I use wishlist as my catalogue too...that's why it took me so long to actually buy Scar Tissue, as my list is ridiculously long :D I checked out "The Eight"

Liz: I just saw the "Dani Calfornia" clip on TV...it's brilliant!

Lou: It's mainly about Anthony and his experiences but as this is interlinked so much with the Chili Peppers; you do get some behind-the-scenes info about them too. And Catholic School Girls Rule is a classic :D

    Carolyn: Me too :D

MF: It's weird how they give different names to books / movies in different countries! I think "Outlander" is a better name than "Cross Stitch" especially as Claire is a Sassenach :D I finished it last night...and loved it. Will have to buy the rest of the series now! And you've gotta read The Mists - Morgaine is a fantastic character!

I was disappointed in "Scar Tissue", but was able to re-sell it for a nice sum on Ebay.

I think I prefer Anthony as a singer. I guess because i've known addicts, they wear thin on me, and i'm not interested in all their shite .. unless they really DO quit. For Good.

Anyhoo, just my 2cents worth ;)
