I think I prefer the old too!
They somehow look ill at ease together, dont they.

Bearette: I definitely have fun looking for these kinds of combinations!
Meggie: Maybe I've been here for too long as I find they blend together quite well!

Hi VK - I'm back. Just!
I have to say I am a bit partial to them residing near each other as well. At least the old and new are separate buildings. In Sydney there is that trend, usually quite badly done, of having the old building gutted then a new portion added on top. Some of the combinations are atrocious. I will have to take some pictures for you next time I'm in the city.

Nutmeg: Glad you're feeling better! I'd like to see pics of that...I can't seem to recall that particular atrocity...perhaps that's a good thing?!

Maybe I can't see the forest through the trees, but they both look so modern to me. Busy cities scare me. I'd love to visit Japan, but I'd hurry into the country (unless I had money to shop, then I could cope with the crowds and modernism).

What a cool environment! I wish I could explore it first-hand. Until then, I've got your great images!

I got to visit Japan twice. I was amazed at how closely the old and the new co-exist.

I love the pics and love the juxtaposition of the old and new. I like them both and think it's wonderful that they co-exist.

I like the combination of the two...reminds me a lot of Shanghai.

Old ...
BUT .. as long as the old is preserved, a bit of new tickles my fancy also.
Visiting buildings is one of my favourite 'visiting other cities' pastimes.
Awesome

The mix of old and new is one of the major reasons I like living in Shanghai- also there is a mix of old and new cultures that I'm sure you have too- for example, Armani on on corner with the alley running behind selling live eels and frogs in buckets to cook for dinner. Or a girl with an Evian bottle in one hand and a street roasted sweet potato in the other. Love it!

I LOVE old stuff.
But technology wise, I'm all for the new.

Hmm. Old I think because of all the stories that go with it. But new can be very "clean"!
