Ecological Footprint Quiz...

"Save the Earth Garden" taken from here

April 22nd was Earth Day so I took the
Ecological Footprint Quiz
and discovered that my total footprint is 3.2 global hectares.
In comparison, the average ecological footprint in Japan
is 4.8 global hectares per person.
If everyone lived like me, then we would need 1.8 planets.

Neat test. I just took it and found that my total footprint is 19 and the average ecological footprint in the US is 24 acres per person. And if everyone lived like me, we would need 4.3 planets - yikes! How embarrassing.

I think my commute is what killed me. We would need 5.2 planets. Damn Americans! I was 23 with the US average at 24.

Whoa. This gave me a shock. I came in at 4.8 global hectares, compared with 7.6 in Australia. Still, I'd need 2.7 planets.

It's strange because I live, travel and shop locally, I work from home. I'm surprised that it didn't ask about kids - their nappies and associated paraphenalia like bleach and constant washing of clothes would make a definite dent in the global resources.

Mine was 2.5 footprints and I was embarrassed. I thought I'd score higher because I'm veg. But I guess the multi-story apartment building did me in, plus the fact that none of my produce is grown in Manhattan ;) No farms here yet. I think it's all granite underfoot anyway.

It is quite a sobering test...what killed my total was all the planes I catch when I'm jetsetting around the world!

That, and the ridiculous amount of packaging on EVERYTHING in Japan :D

If everyone lived like me, we would need 3.2 planets. I'm ashamed. I need to get my act together.

Thanks for the cool link and a little taste of reality.

    My footprint was 18.

    We would need four planets!

    I am a pig.

Well that's an eye-opener! If everyone lived like me we'd need 11 planets ... yikes!

Well here me oinking all the way to hell and back.

I am ashamed to admit I scored way over 4 planets. And we live so much more simply than anyone we know, eat locally grown (or grow our own), have barely any trash and are extremely energy efficient people. Still *oink oink oink* I remember seeing the fellow who used to host Victory Garden on PBS at our local botanic gardens, and he said that every American was 30/1 over a developing nation individual. And this was long before China was gobbling up petroleum and striving to achieve Western consumption goals.

    Scary!

What I liked most about this test was the "Take Action" button where you can pledge to improve your footprint savings :)

When I evaluate my lifestyle I realise how many consumer items have become essential to me compared to when I was a kid...definitely food for thought!
