Frogger...PacMan...Space Invaders...

Japan is a country with a long history of advanced culture and civilisation...and, perhaps, most importantly...

Video Games:

...We spotted these original arcade cabinets while walking around our neighbourhood one night...and it got me thinking about Atari and the 3 games I loved playing the most - PacMan, Frogger and Space Invaders! We didn't actually own an Atari, but I have very fond memories of visiting my friend's house and playing for hours.

What were your favourite games from the 1980s?

My personal favorite video game from back then was Defender. I hate to think how many quarters I fed into that game.

    Michele sent me.

I liked PacMan, but on our home computers - I've never played at video arcades.
Thanks for your comments on Heathrow - we are seriously considering Manchester, we can arrive there if we fly on Singapore Airlines or if we pay quite a bit more and fly on Emirates (I assume there must be extra comfort for the extra money or they wouldn't stay in business).

Mike: I don't know Defender...guess I'll have to do some googling!

Catherine: Both Singapore and Emirates are great airlines to fly with...definitely worth the extra cash for a more relaxing trip!

My all-time favorite video game is Ms. Pac-Man. Any time I can find one in a bar these days I will be there for hours. I love that game! I also loved all of the games on my original Atari & Nintendo systems -- Centipede, Mario brothers, Frogger, Galaxa, etc. And I loved Pong, on my Commodore 64 ;-)

Oh Amy's comment about the Commodore 64... what a blast from the past. So to the Atari.

But do you remember the floor mounted games in big boxy consoles that you looked at from the top? I distinctly remember one of those that had a very early edition of space invaders. All the "big" boys hogged it so I never got much of a go but I watched alot!

Bearette: There really is something special about Atari!

Stepherz & Amy: Is Ms PacMan different to PacMan?

Nutmeg: One day I want to own one of those game tables!

Yes, Ms. Pac-Man is superior to Pac-Man in that as you advance levels, the screens change. In Pac-Man, you play the same screen over & over, just the difficult increases. In Ms. Pac-Man, the difficulty not only increases, but the screens change. Much better!

Amy: Thanks for the explanation! Now I want to try Ms PacMan ;)

I LOVED frogger, though most of the time I only played it at friends houses or at school.
You can play it now at http://www.play.vg/games/9-Frogger.html
but I had to quit cold turkey when I got addicted to it.... beware....

I loved Frogger and feel like I am playing it in real life every time I cross a street in China. There was a Helicopter game that I liked to play as kid where you had to save the people who had been captured, but I can't think of the name right now. Golden Axe was another of my arcade favorties. If my brain wasn't so retarded, I could name a few more, but in my old age of 25, I am having a hard time remembering them.
