First Shots of Goreme...

A long overnight train trip via Ankara - thankfully a much more comfortable experience than the Plovdiv to Istanbul overnight train!

A quick breakfast of firin sutlac (baked rice pudding) followed by a long bus trip via Kayseri,

a quick roadside lunch of lahmacun (a thin Turkish style pizza snack),

and we are finally in the magical landscape of Goreme, Cappadocia!

...I don't know if I was allowed to take these shots...

Adventures...

Border control guards in Romania entered our carriage, took our passports from us and then got off the train - with our passports...

...suddenly the train started moving and we were passportless in a foreign country. The train picked up speed so we asked the border guard - with a big machine gun - who was still onboard where we were going...

...there was no comprehensible answer from him! So we sat back and waited...

...after 5 minutes our train reversed direction and we arrived back at the same station. The other border guards reentered our carriage and gave us back our passports, and we were then permitted off the train...

...we waited for half an hour or so at the station and then got on another train to continue our Romanian adventure.

We caught a rickety old train (not the one below!) from Debrecen and crossed the border into Romania:

Bombi Star (sponge cake filled with apricot jam and covered in chocolate) accompanied us for a short time on the train journey:

Back in time...

I'm briefly back in London before setting off on my European odyssey. This is the first of many buses I will be catching over the next few months. Let's hope they are all as comfortable!
