Ceausescu's last speech was delivered from the balcony of the Central Committee of the Communist Party Building before he briefly escaped in a helicopter.

Palace of Parliament...

The 12 storey Palatul Parlamentului - Palace of Parliament was built in 1984 and is still 10% unfinished. It has 3100 rooms covering 330 000 square metres and is the second largest building in the world (the US Pentagon is the largest).

Standing on the balcony provides the perfect view of B-dul Unirii - Romania's Champs Elysees.

After visiting Beijing and Pyongyang, Nicolae Ceausescu embarked on a reconstruction campaign which included bulldozing one sixth of Bucharest to build his House of the People.

A 45 minute tour of the building allows you to view several marble rooms and some enormous carpets. You have to pay an extra 30 RON to take photos inside.

So I only have these outside shots!
